In Ganvie, the population lives exclusively from fishing, building houses on stilts in and next to Lake Nokoue. Because the Dan-Homey religion prohibited attacks on communities living in the water, the village of Ganvie dates back to the 16th or 17th century, when it was built to protect people from slavery. Even Ganvie's fruit and vegetable market is on water!!! Children in Conakry, Guinea look up at a billboard advertising a safe water product called "Sur'Eau." Sur'Eau is a chlorine product that prevents diarrheal diseases, which are life-threatening to children under 5, by making water safe to drink.
